The kids will make their own Alebrije, a colorful, fantasy figure, using air-dry clay. They will learn how to construct an armature out of wire, foil, and masking tape which will be covered with the clay. The Alebrijes will then be painted using bright, acrylic paints.

Background: Alebrijes are a popular Mexican folk art originating in Mexico City in the 1930s. Originally made of papier-mache, most Alebrijes are now carved from copal wood. Disney Pixar animators were inspired by this craft during the creation of “CocoIf time permits, the kids will make additional small figures.Ages 10 & up
